We spent Saturday Night in Spruce Pine and I had fun seeing old elementary and junior high school friends, plus my brother Jim. (In the grey sweater).
"Spanky" at Avery Aviation, (blue sweater), took good care of us and our plane during our stay.

Spanky's dog "Bit" is a good dog but dad had too much "gas". (Airplane fuel). :-) Me, Dad, and Brother Jim.

This is mountain flying. The airport is surrounded by mountains. Runway 16 outbound and 34 inbound at Avery County Morrison, (7A8), is the favored runway. The mountain in the left pic is directly off the end of the runway. Nighttime ops are not allowed here due to the close proximity of the mountains. The traffic pattern calls for a right turn-out after departure to avoid the high terrain.
